Fußball ist im Blut der Varanasen - die Heilige Stadt hat mehr als tausend Fußballer von nationalem Ruf hervorgebracht. Daher überrascht es nicht, dass die Aufregung bei den Fans und ehemaligen Fußballern nun einen Höhepunkt erreicht, denn die Stadt rüstet sich als Gastgeber der diesjährigen Cluster Ligaspiele des 67. National Football Championship für Santosh Trophy. Das Ereignis markiert die Rückkehr der großen Zeit der Fußball-Aktivität der Stadt vor 28 Jahren. Es war im Jahr 1985, als Varanasi die Santosh Trophy das letzte Mal ausgerichtet hat. Jeder wartet nun gespannt auf Freitag Morgen, wenn die Veranstaltung hier, im Herzen der Stadt mit einem Auftaktspiel beginnt.

Therefore, it is not a matter of surprise to see excitement among fans and former footballers reaching a fever pitch as the city gears up to host cluster league matches of the 67th National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy. He event marks the return of big time footballing action to the city after a hiatus of 28 years. It was in 1985 that Varanasi hosted Santosh Trophy matches at least. Everyone is waiting now for Friday morning when the event kicks off here in the heart of the city.
